PRP & PRF Therapy in CalgaryPlatelet-Rich Plasma & FibrinHair & Skin Rejuvenation

Two regenerative options from your own blood.
We recommend PRF, and we still offer PRP so you can choose.

Treatment Overview

What Are PRP & PRF Therapy?

At our Calgary clinic, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) therapies use your own blood's concentrated growth factors to support repair and rejuvenation. A small sample of your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelet-rich portion, which is then carefully injected or microneedled into the treatment area. These growth factors signal your skin and hair follicles to regenerate.

In 2026, we added PRF to our offerings as we continue to actively research the best treatments, procedures, and protocols for our clients and patients. PRF is now our preferred and primary regenerative treatment, because we believe it offers important advantages over PRP for many skin and hair goals. This is not a replacement of PRP: we still offer PRP so you can make an informed choice based on your goals, your budget, and what our team recommends for you.

Both PRP and PRF come from your own blood, so they are well tolerated with little risk of allergic reaction. The difference is in how they are prepared and how they release growth factors. PRP releases its growth factors quickly. PRF is prepared without anticoagulants, forms a natural fibrin scaffold, and releases growth factors slowly over 7 to 14 days. For skin, these treatments improve texture, tone, fine lines, and overall glow. For hair, they support healthier follicles, improve the appearance of thickness, and help reduce shedding in appropriate candidates.

Why We Recommend PRF

PRP and PRF are both established regenerative options, and both are used successfully for skin and hair treatments. We recommend PRF for most clients because of how it is made and how it behaves once injected. Many PRP protocols add an anticoagulant, use a double spin, and remove much of the white blood cell fraction, releasing growth factors more quickly after activation. PRF is drawn with nothing added and prepared in a single spin, forming a three-dimensional fibrin scaffold that retains platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors and releases them gradually over one to two weeks. PRP is activated and releases most of its growth factors almost immediately, while PRF holds them within the scaffold and releases them as it naturally breaks down over 7 to 14 days. That slower, sustained release keeps the regenerative signal active for longer, which is why PRF results build gradually and last longer.

A growing body of research supports PRF. Studies have reported that fluid PRF outperformed PRP for atrophic acne scars (Archives of Dermatological Research, 2022), that injectable PRF produced statistically significant gains in under-eye skin density and thickness (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2025), and that repeated i-PRF sessions delivered measurable facial rejuvenation (PubMed, 2020). For hair, one study reported an 80% response rate after six monthly i-PRF sessions for androgenetic alopecia (PubMed, 2025), while PRP retains a deeper evidence base, including a meta-analysis of nine randomized trials (PubMed, 2023). The evidence does not yet show one modality to be universally superior to the other, and larger randomized trials are still needed; we track this research as it evolves and update our protocols accordingly.

PRP or PRF: Which Is Right for You?

PRF is our default recommendation for skin rejuvenation, under-eye quality, acne scars, and hair restoration, because of its slow release and additive-free fibrin scaffold. PRP remains a great option and is sometimes preferred, for example when a faster release is desired. At your consultation we assess your skin or hair, review your history, and recommend PRF or PRP based on what will give you the best outcome. You always make the final choice.

Both treatments work well on their own or combined with other services. They pair exceptionally well with microneedling for collagen induction, and many patients also combine them with chemical peels, Botox, or dermal fillers to support recovery and results.

Your Experience

What to Expect

A safe, natural treatment. Your own biology does the work.

01

Blood Draw & Preparation

The appointment begins with a simple blood draw, just like a lab test. Your blood is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelet-rich plasma or fibrin while we numb the treatment area. Because PRF is prepared without anticoagulants, processing begins right away.

02

Injections or Microneedling (20 to 40 Minutes)

Your PRP or PRF is precisely injected or applied via microneedling into the scalp or skin. The entire visit lasts approximately 60 to 75 minutes. Mild redness or sensitivity afterward is common and temporary.

03

Minimal Downtime

Most clients return to normal activities the same day. Mild redness at the treatment site resolves within a few hours. A series of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results.

04

Gradual, Natural Improvement

Skin results appear gradually over 4 to 8 weeks as new collagen forms. Hair results become visible at 3 to 6 months, with continued improvement up to 12 months. Maintenance is recommended once or twice a year. Individual results vary.

Our C-PRF Protocol

For our injectable PRF treatments we follow the C-PRF (Concentrated PRF) protocol, in which the spin deliberately concentrates platelets and white blood cells into a small cell-rich layer just above the buffy coat. In a C-PRF harvesting study, Miron and colleagues reported a roughly 10-fold increase in platelets and leukocytes compared with whole blood, considerably higher than standard injectable PRF. For context, typical PRP concentrates platelets roughly 5-fold over whole blood, and standard injectable PRF about 2- to 3-fold. C-PRF reaches roughly 10-fold, about twice the concentration of typical PRP and roughly 3 to 5 times that of standard injectable PRF. Actual concentration varies by centrifuge, tube type, processing time, and patient factors.

In practical terms, C-PRF gives us a more concentrated, cell-rich injectable while keeping everything that makes PRF appealing: no anticoagulants, no additives, a natural fibrin scaffold, and a slow, sustained release of your own growth factors.

Longevity

Results & How Long They Last

Your body's own growth factors continue working long after your appointment.

3 to 6
Sessions for optimal results
4 to 8
Weeks for skin results
12
Months of continued hair improvement

Skin results from PRP and PRF appear gradually over 4 to 8 weeks as new collagen forms. Hair results become visible at 3 to 6 months, with continued improvement up to 12 months. Maintenance is recommended once or twice a year to preserve your improvements. Individual results vary.

FAQ

PRP & PRF Therapy Questions Answered

Both come from your own blood. PRP releases its growth factors quickly. PRF is prepared without anticoagulants, forms a natural fibrin scaffold that traps platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors, and releases them slowly over 7 to 14 days. PRF is the formulation we recommend and use most often.
We recommend PRF most often because its additive-free fibrin scaffold supports a slower, sustained release of growth factors compared with typical PRP preparation. Its fibrin matrix traps platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors and releases them gradually over one to two weeks, which supports longer-lasting tissue regeneration. PRP remains effective and is still available for clients who prefer it or whose goals suit a faster release.
Yes. We added PRF in 2026 as our preferred treatment, and we continue to offer PRP so you can choose. At consultation we recommend the option that best fits your goals, and you make the final decision.
C-PRF stands for Concentrated PRF, an injectable form of platelet-rich fibrin where the centrifuge spin concentrates platelets and white blood cells into a small cell-rich layer. It yields a higher concentration of platelets and leukocytes than standard injectable PRF. It is the protocol we follow for our injectable PRF treatments.

Most clients see the best results with 3 to 6 initial sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance once or twice a year. Your exact plan is personalized during consultation.
The blood draw is quick and routine. The injections or microneedling feel like tiny pinches; numbing makes it very comfortable.
Skin results appear gradually over 4 to 8 weeks as new collagen forms. Hair results become visible at 3 to 6 months, with continued improvement up to 12 months. Individual results vary.
Both are prepared from your own blood. PRF is prepared without anticoagulants or additives; PRP preparation varies by protocol. Both are well tolerated. Most side effects are mild and temporary, such as redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site; rare injection-related risks are possible.
Yes, and it is how we deliver it as standard. Microneedling creates micro-channels that allow the growth factors to penetrate deeper than surface application alone. The combination is a popular choice for texture, scars, and overall skin quality.
Pricing depends on the area and the number of sessions. PRP and PRF are priced the same; skin sessions start from $400 and hair packages are priced by session count. Personalized pricing is provided during your consultation, with no surprises.
